About Us

Objectives

To produce well behaved and socialised pet dogs that will fit in to live in the society.

To give owners the knowledge of basic care, handling, how dogs learn and leadership.

To give owners the "tools" to help them identify the cause of an undesirable behaviour, and to find the solution.

To build a closer relationship between dog owners and their pooch by making training fun for everyone and everypooch involved.

Methods

Pawfect Pooch uses positive reinforcement training methods which works by using praise and rewards rather than punishment or correctional actions. The key with this type of training is to determine what it is that motivates your pooch and use that motivator as a reward for good behaviour. A behaviour can be changed by rewarding the desired behaviour and ignoring (not rewarding/acknowledging) the unwanted behaviour.

Clicker Training

ClickerA clicker is a small plastic device that makes a distinctive "click" sound when pressed. The "click" sound is used to mark the exact moment a dog is performing a behaviour correctly. The click is then followed by a super yummy treat. Your dog will learn quickly that a click equals a treat and he will begin to try to figure out what to do to earn the click (yes, he is training you to click!). This method teaches dogs to think for themselves. Dogs enjoy the clicker training game as their behaviour determines the rewards and they don't get punished if they do something wrong (we simply ignore them!).

While we don't use clickers in puppy class, you can learn more on how to train your dog using a clicker by booking a private consultation.
